Pullman man falls from Granite Point, dies

A Pullman man fell 50 feet to his death early Friday morning at the Granite Point cliffs along the Snake River. The man was identified as Andrew P. Duke, 23, of Pullman, according to a Whitman County Sheriff’s Office news release. Deputies received a report around 2 a.m. that the man fell accidentally when he walked away from a group. Duke was found at the bottom of the cliff, deceased upon the arrival of medical crews. The injuries were consistent with a fall, the news release said, and authorities believe alcohol was involved. Duke is listed as a clerical assistant for Washington State University, according to their website. Granite Point is a popular recreation area about 20 miles southwest of Pullman where many people climb the cliffs and jump into the Snake River.
