If it’s 4/20 at 4:20, it’s time to get down

Yukmouth performs tonight at The Red Room Lounge.

Nothing goes together quite like music and alcohol … except maybe music and marijuana.

From Willie Nelson to Snoop Dogg, Parliament to The Grateful Dead, the association between music and pot has been a constant that crosses genre and generation.

With the unofficial national holiday for cannabis falling on the weekend, pot parties are to be expected throughout the state, especially since Washington became one of the first states to legalize nonmedical marijuana use.

The counterculture code for pot smokers – 420 – is ritually recognized at 4:20 p.m. and on April 20.

Here’s the deal on a few local joints that will be burning with live music to celebrate sativa.

The 4/20 Pre Funk with Yukmouth, Unique, Skeptical, Lei Majors, DJ Gesus, DJ Wes One and No Nonsense

When, where: Tonight at 9 at The Red Room Lounge, 521 S. Sprague Ave.

One of the most memorable marijuana anthems created from 1990s hip-hop came in the form of a slick sample of Club Nouvou’s, “Why You Treat Me So Bad.”

Replacing the vocal hook with, “I Got 5 On It,” Bay Area rappers The Luniz cemented a new slang for social smoking.

One half of that duo, emcee Yukmouth, is headlining a show with an all-star lineup of local rappers and producers.

While the platinum-selling, Grammy nominated duo might be dismissed as a one-hit wonder, Yuk went on to release a solo gold-selling double album on Rap-a-Lot Records, along with a line of DVDs on his own Smoke-a-Lot Records.

Tickets: $10, through FTH Music and More (2415 N. Monroe St.) and The Red Room
