Food stamps safe

I’d like to comment on Sally Jackson’s July 26 letter to the editor regarding Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers eliminating food stamps from the farm bill, thus sending children to bed hungry. Jackson doesn’t seem to understand what really happened.

Food stamps were not and will never be eliminated. Food stamps have now just found a more appropriate legislative home. There is no need to repeatedly bash or misstate the facts in order to denigrate McMorris Rodgers.

In Spokane in the summer, low-income children can be fed daily at local parks and schools, and during the school year they can receive breakfast and lunch free at their schools. And their parents still receive food stamps. So if any child in Spokane goes to bed hungry, perhaps one should look into how the parents receiving the food stamps are using them.
