GU soccer picked 9th in WCC

The Gonzaga women’s soccer team has been selected to finish ninth in the 2013 West Coast Conference season according to a preseason vote of the league’s head coaches.

Santa Clara was selected as the preseason favorite to win the 2013 WCC title. The Broncos earned all nine possible first-place votes. WCC newcomer Pacific was picked 10th.

Gonzaga, which finished 8-11-1 last season, opens nonconference play at Eastern Washington on Aug. 23.

Volleyball

The Eastern Washington women’s team has been picked sixth in the Big Sky preseason coaches poll. The Eagles return eight letter winners from a team that finished ninth last year.

Portland State was the coaches’ choice to repeat as conference champions.

EWU opens the season at Oregon on Aug. 30.
