Overnight basement fire damages home in north Spokane

From staff reports
Spokane firefighters doused a basement fire that sparked sometime around 1 a.m. Tuesday, according to a news release from the Spokane Fire Department. No injuries were reported in the blaze, which brought five engines and two ladders to the home just south of Garland Avenue on the northwest side of town. Firefighters made quick work of the flames, confining fire damage to two basement bedrooms though smoke was present throughout the house at 2004 W. Gordon Ave. Damages are estimated around $40,000. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, according to the news release.
