Redmon powers No. 23 Gonzaga’s win over Wisconsin

From News Services

MADISON, Wis. – Senior point guard Jazmine Redmon scored 10 of her team-high 15 points in the second half and the 23rd-ranked Gonzaga women’s basketball team pulled away from Wisconsin in the second half Tuesday night for a 70-55 nonconference win.

Danielle Walter scored eight of the final 13 points for Gonzaga (8-1), which won its sixth straight. Walter stepped in after Redmon picked up her fourth foul. Walter finished with a season-high 10 points, Sunny Greinacher had 12 and Keani Albanez added 10. Redmon’s 15 was one shy of her career best.

Both teams had nice runs in the first half before a 3 by Taylor Wurtz gave the Badgers (6-3) a 29-28 lead at the break. Gonzaga took control after that.

GU opened the second half with a 9-0 run. The Badgers closed within two before a 10-0 Gonzaga run made it 52-40 with 9:10 left. Redmon had eight points in the surge.

Gonzaga’s defense held the Badgers in check for most of the game.

Wisconsin shot 29 percent from the field in the first half and 36.4 percent after halftime. GU had a 40-31 rebounding advantage and outscored Wisconsin 30-18 in the paint.

Paige Morgan made 11 of 14 free throws and led Wisconsin with 19 points. Taylor had 12 points and Michala Johnson pulled down nine rebounds for the Badgers.

GU moves up in poll

Gonzaga jumped two spots in the USA Today Coaches Top 25 Poll, checking in at No. 22. The Bulldogs received 14 more points (126) than they did a week ago.
