TV Notes: Haul out the snacks; It’s Super Bowl Sunday
Don’t miss
SUPER BOWL XLVII: Break out the hot wings. It’s a day when most of America stuffs its face and hunkers down to watch big burly men pummel each other on plastic grass. This year, it’s the San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens waging battle in New Orleans. Jim Nantz and Phil Simms call the action from the Superdome, while Beyonce provides the halftime entertainment and Madison Avenue spends a fortune on commercials. 3:25 p.m. today, CBS.
Other bets
ToDAY: The action in “Puppy Bowl IX” should be off the leash as cute critters clash once again. Even better: There’s a blimp piloted by hamsters. Yes, we’re easily entertained. 3 p.m., Animal Planet.
ToDAY: After a long day of football and antacids, “Elementary” will try its best to keep you on the couch to watch Sherlock Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller) track down another bad guy. 7 p.m., CBS.
MONDAY: Because we desperately needed one more medical drama in our lives, David E. Kelley gives us “Monday Mornings” starring Jamie Bamber. The title comes from the weekly meetings where surgeons discuss the errors they made and keep each other in check. 10 p.m., TNT.
TUESDAY: Will the “hate-watching” subside in Season 2 of “Smash”? The much-maligned Broadway drama returns with some cast tweaks and other changes, including no more ridiculous scarves for Julia (Debra Messing). 9 p.m., NBC.
TUESDAY: “Silicon Valley,” the latest offering from the “American Experience” documentary series, is an absorbing examination of the rough-and-tumble early days of the high-tech industry and the ingenuity that went into changing the way the world works, plays and communicates. 8 p.m., KSPS; 9 p.m., KCDT.
WEDNESDAY: Crossover alert: “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” and “CSI: NY” do some mingling as Mac Taylor (Gary Sinise) travels to Las Vegas to surprise his girlfriend, only to get a surprise himself: She’s missing. 10 p.m., CBS.
THURSDAY: It’s about time. After a long delay, the kooky campus comedy “Community” finally returns to kick off Season 4 with “Hunger Games”-style competition to determine who gets a spot in Greendale’s coveted history class. 8 p.m., NBC.
FRIDAY: The two-hour Season 2 opener of “Touch” finds Martin (Kiefer Sutherland) and his gifted son, Jake (David Mazouz) frantically trying to help Lucy (Maria Bello) find her missing daughter before the baddies from Aster Corps do something evil. 8 p.m., Fox.
FRIDAY: “The Job” may sound like “The Apprentice,” but it’s not. It’s a new reality series that has candidates competing for positions with prominent companies and, hopefully, lowering the unemployment rate in the process. 8 p.m., CBS.
SATURDAY: “The Grammys Will Go On: A Death in the Family” is a one-hour documentary that takes viewers behind the scenes of last year’s Grammy telecast and recounts the last-minute changes made to honor Whitney Houston, who died on the eve of the show. 9 p.m., CBS.
