Bubba Watson lone survivor among top 10

Golf: And then there was one.

One day after Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods went home, more top seeds followed Friday in the Match Play Championship. Masters champion Bubba Watson was the only player from the top 10 remaining at Dove Mountain in Marana, Ariz.

Watson, the No. 8 seed, missed two short putts that would have won the match before he finally put away Jim Furyk in 22 holes. It’s the first time since 1999 that only one top-10 seed was remaining after two rounds.

Scott Piercy hammered third-seeded Luke Donald, Robert Garrigus beat No. 4 Louis Oosthuizen and fifth-seeded Justin Rose fell to Nicolas Colsaerts.

Shane Lowry became the first No. 64 seed to make it to the third round. The Irishman who beat McIlroy had no trouble getting past Carl Pettersson.

• Stacy Lewis leads at LPGA Thailand: Stacy Lewis shot a 3-under 69 Friday to keep her three-stroke lead after the second round of the LPGA Thailand in Chonburi.

Lewis had five birdies and two bogeys for a 12-under 132 total at the Siam Country Club Pattaya Old Course, replicating her form from 2012 that made her the first American to win the LPGA Player of the Year award since Beth Daniel in 1994.

Blackhawks stretch streak to record 17

NHL: The Chicago Blackhawks set an NHL record for the best start to a season, beating the San Jose Sharks 2-1 on Friday night to give them at least one point in their first 17 games.

Blackhawks rookie Brandon Saad scored a short-handed goal early in the third period to snap a 1-all tie. Chicago (14-0-3) won its fourth straight game to break a mark set by the 2006-07 Anaheim Ducks, who earned points in their first 16 games.

• Canucks blank Predators: Dale Weise broke a scoreless tie at 9:14 of the third period and Roberto Luongo made 23 saves for the shutout as Vancouver defeated Nashville 1-0 in Nashville, Tenn.

The Canucks have won consecutive games on their four-game road trip after losing three straight.

• Penguins break free in third: Matt Niskanen and Dustin Jeffrey scored third-period goals to send Pittsburgh to a 3-1 victory over Florida at Pittsburgh.

Panthers goaltender Jacob Markstrom made 37 saves in his first NHL start this season.

Rockets continue dominance of Nets

NBA: James Harden and Carlos Delfino each scored 22 points, and the Houston Rockets tied their longest winning streak against any opponent by beating the Brooklyn Nets for the 13th straight time, 106-96 on Friday night.

Houston blew most of a 15-point lead in the fourth quarter before Delfino hit a big 3-pointer with 1:54 left.

Brook Lopez scored 27 points for the Nets, who played without starting guard Joe Johnson for the first time this season because of plantar fasciitis in his left foot.

• Jack, Lee power Warriors past Spurs: Jarrett Jack had 30 points and 10 rebounds, David Lee added 25 points and 22 boards, and the Golden State Warriors rallied past the San Antonio Spurs 107-101 in overtime to snap a 16-game losing streak in the series.

Danny Green scored 20 points and Tim Duncan had 19 points and 18 rebounds for the NBA-leading Spurs.

• Bryant, Howard lead Lakers’ win: Kobe Bryant scored 40 points, Dwight Howard had 19 points and 16 rebounds, and the Los Angeles Lakers edged the Portland Trail Blazers 111-107 in Portland.

Bryant scored 11 points in the final 51/2 minutes and the Lakers won for the seventh time in 10 games.

• Raptors add to Knicks’ recent woes: Rudy Gay scored a season-high 32 points, DeMar DeRozan had 18 and Toronto defeated visiting New York 100-98, handing the Knicks their season-worst fourth straight loss.

Kyle Lowry scored 15 points, Amir Johnson 12 and John Lucas 10 as the Raptors won for the sixth time in seven games.

• Usual stars lead Thunder victory: Russell Westbrook scored 37 points, Kevin Durant added 27 and Oklahoma City snapped a three-game losing streak by beating Minnesota 127-111 at Oklahoma City.

The Thunder avoided losing four in a row for the first time since April 2009.

Sauter wins Truck Series opener

Auto racing: Johnny Sauter has won the NASCAR Truck Series season opener, his first victory at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Sauter led the final 17 laps and held off Kyle Busch before a last-lap wreck forced the 250-mile race to finish under caution Friday night.

Ron Hornaday Jr. was third, followed by Justin Lofton, Jeb Burton and Ty Dillon.

• Bayne takes Nationwide pole: Former Daytona 500 winner Trevor Bayne will start from the pole in the Nationwide Series season opener.

Bayne turned the fast lap during qualifying at Daytona International Speedway on Friday, averaging 177.162 mph around the 2 1/2-mile superspeedway.

Sam Hornish Jr. will start second, followed by Parker Kligerman, Travis Pastrana and Austin Dillon.

Corinthians to play without fans

Miscellany: Brazilian club Corinthians will play without its fans for the next 60 days because of the death of a 14-year-old boy during its Copa Libertadores match this week.

South American soccer federation spokesman Nestor Benitez said the sanction is temporary pending the result of the investigation by Bolivian authorities. Kevin Beltran Espada died with head injuries caused by a flare allegedly thrown from the Corinthians fan section.

Twelve Corinthians supporters remain detained in the Bolivian city of Oruro, where the match against San Jose was played Wednesday.

• Drones to aid security for Confed Cup: The Brazilian Air Force will use four Israeli-made drones to help provide security during the Confederations Cup in June.

The air force says the unmanned planes have been acquired to operate within Brazil’s borders and will be used extensively during the World Cup warmup tournament from June 15-30. They are also expected to help provide security during the 2014 World Cup.

• U.S. teen wins women’s ski jump event: American teenager Sarah Hendrickson won the women’s ski jumping title Friday, defeating Sara Takanashi of Japan at the Nordic skiing world championships in Val Di Fiemme, Italy.

The 18-year-old Hendrickson had a 347-foot, 9-inch effort on the first jump and scored a total of 253.7 points.

Takanashi finished with 251 points, followed by Jacqueline Seifriedsberger of Austria with 237.2

Women’s ski jumping will debut in the Olympics next year.
