One dead following crash near Spokane airport

Spokane police say one man is dead following a crash near the Spokane International Airport tonight. Spokane International Airport and Spokane police officers responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of West Airport Drive and South Spotted Road about 4:02 p.m., according to Spokane police Sgt. Jason Hartman. The driver of one vehicle, an adult male, was transported to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center, Hartman said. He was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital. No one else was taken to the hospital. The Spokane Police Department is taking the lead role in investigating the incident. Traffic investigators with the department’s Major Crimes Unit responded. Traffic leaving the airport is detoured around the collision scene and the public should anticipate minor delays when leaving the airport for the next several hours. The cause of the collision is still under investigation. The name of the deceased driver is not being released until next of kin are notified.
