Two people seen fleeing suspicious Spokane Valley fire

The Spokane Valley Fire Department is investigating a suspicious fire that damaged a vacant duplex Monday night. A release from the department said crews were dispatched to 208 S. Rees Court in Spokane Valley at 11:22 p.m. and saw heavy black smoke and flames coming from the roof and all sides of the structure. Crews worked to contain the damage to one unit of the duplex but the fire still caused about $60,000 of damage. No firefighters were injured and it took about 20 minutes to get the flames under control. Both units were vacant and neighbors said the duplex is in foreclosure, the release said. The person who called 911 also reported seeing two people, a white man and a white woman, fleeing the residence and leaving the scene in a maroon two-door Honda. Residents also reported the duplex is frequented by transients.
