Johnson breaks game open; Indians cruise

PASCO – Sequan Johnson’s two-out, two-run triple in the second inning gave Spokane a three-run lead and the Indians never looked back in a 11-0 Northwest League baseball win Wednesday night against the Tri-City Dust Devils.

The win vaulted the Indians back to .500 at 10-10, while last-place Tri-City fell to 6-14 in the North Division, four games behind third-place Spokane.

After Marcus Greene singled to keep the second-inning alive, Johnson ripped his triple to center field, scoring Janluis Castro and Greene. Johnson’s hit was followed by RBI-singles from Chris Garia and Gabriel Roa for a 5-0 lead. Spokane starter David Ledbetter threw five shut-out innings to earn his first win. He struck out six, allowed three hits and walked one. Tri-City starter Konner Wade was chased after four innings and fell to 0-2.

Spokane got on the board quickly. Leadoff batter Garia reached on an infield single. He stole second, third and scored on a wild pitch by Wade.

The Indians scored four runs on one hit by Cam Schiller, a run-scoring single, in the fifth inning.

Tri-City pitchers combined three walks, two errors and a hit batter.

Indians infielder Alberto Truinfel blasted his first home run of the season in the top of the ninth.
