Cougars add Rutgers to football schedule

Wisconsin’s trip to Pullman has been delayed eight years, but Washington State announced an addition to its 2014 and 2015 football schedules. Rutgers will visit the Cougars at CenturyLink Field in Seattle on Aug. 29, 2014, WSU announced Wednesday. WSU will make a return trip to Rutgers for a game on Sept. 12, 2015. But the Cougars’ home-and-home series against Wisconsin, originally scheduled for 2014 and 2015, has been pushed back to 2022 and 2023. Wisconsin will host the 2022 game and will come to Pullman in 2023. The Badgers were originally slated to play at Martin Stadium in 2014. “Adding two BCS opponents to those already on future nonconference schedules benefits our program and is sure to be appealing to our fans,” WSU athletic director Bill Moos said in a statement. “Our 2014 schedule also allows us to bring five quality Pac-12 games (Arizona, USC, Cal, Oregon and Washington) to Pullman to showcase our newly completed facilities.” WSU hasn’t played five Pac-12 games in Pullman since 2010. The Cougars have moved a conference game to CenturyLink in each of the past two seasons and will play Stanford there this year. According to WSU’s sports information department, the Aug. 29, 2014, game against Rutgers would mark the earliest the Cougars have begun a season.
