Spokane Jewish Cultural Film Festival 2013 - Saturday, 7 p.m. reception at Boots Bakery; 8 p.m. “The Other Son” (PG-13). French, Hebrew, Arabic with English subtitles. Joseph, an 18-year-old musician preparing to join the Israeli army for his mandatory military service, lives at home in a comfortable suburb of Tel Aviv with his parents. A blood test for Joseph’s military service reveals that he is not their biological son. During the Gulf War, Joseph was evacuated from a clinic along with another baby, and the two were given back to the wrong families. While Palestinian Joseph went to Tel Aviv with the Israeli couple, their actual Jewish son, Yacine, was brought to the West Bank by an Arab couple, Said and Leila. The revelation turns the lives of the two families upside-down, forcing them to reassess their respective identities, values and beliefs. Sunday, 7:30 p.m. “The World is Funny” (Rated R). In a small town in the north of Israel a young man wakes up from a coma after nine years to discover he is no longer a boy; a woman finds out she is pregnant but doesn’t know how; and a man tries to save his lover by making her laugh. Mobius Sci-Fi Spectacular at the Bing - Doc Brown and Marty McFly will be taking you on a voyage across the space-time continuum, where you’ll be witness to the collision of past, present and future. After watching “Back to the Future,” you’ll get the chance to join the Mobius movie and science experts in a conversation about the film. After the discussion, head over to the Mobius Science Center for some hands-on learning. “Bitter Seeds” - Explores the future of how we grow things, weighing in on the worldwide debate over the changes created by industrial agriculture. Companies like the U.S.-based Monsanto claim that their genetically modified seeds offer the most effective solution to feeding the world’s growing population, but on the ground, many small-scale farmers are losing their land. “Silver Linings Playbook” - Thursday-March 23. Life doesn’t always go according to plan. Pat Solatano (Bradley Cooper) has lost everything: his house, his job and his wife. He now finds himself living back with his mother (Jacki Weaver) and father (Robert De Niro) after spending eight months in a state institution on a plea bargain. Pat is determined to rebuild his life, remain positive and reunite with his wife, despite the challenging circumstances of their separation. “Led Zeppelin: Celebration Day” - On Dec. 10, 2007, Led Zeppelin took the stage at London’s O2 Arena to headline a tribute concert for dear friend and Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun. What followed was a two-hour-plus tour de force of the band’s signature blues-infused rock ’n’ roll that instantly became part of the legend of Led Zeppelin. Founding members John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant were joined by Jason Bonham, the son of their late drummer John Bonham, to perform 16 songs from their celebrated catalogue including landmark tracks “Whole Lotta Love,” “Rock And Roll,” “Kashmir” and “Stairway to Heaven.” Experience it on the big screen for a strictly limited period only.
