Weekend’s just a taste of what’s ahead

Aaaah. Memorial Day. The long weekend stretches ahead, and the possibilities are tantalizing. A date, perhaps, with a dock and a good book. Or a road trip, just you and 23,000 of your closest friends, to hear four days of amazing music at Sasquatch at the Gorge. Maybe you’ll spin yourself sick (literally?) on the new Spin Cycle, the latest thrill ride at Silverwood Theme Park in Athol, or gorge yourself on tempting television, such as “Arrested Development” or “Behind the Candelabra.”

Or, take a cue from correspondent Kevin Finch in the first of a new quarterly feature we’re calling the Throwdown. Finch and friends taste-tested the offerings at nine area barbecue joints, tallied up the points, and crowned a new local barbecue champ.

The holiday also offers plenty of time for contemplation. Take a few moments to honor those who have gone before at any of the numerous Memorial Day ceremonies around the region, or just sit back and relax. Because you know that as June approaches, time seems to speed up. Before you know it, Labor Day will be upon us.
