Area colleges: Luu scores twice as CCS women cruise

Tasha Luu scored a goal in each half and Rainey Pelzel added a first-half netter to power the Community Colleges of Spokane Sasquatch (15-1-4, 12-1-3) to a 3-0 victory over the visiting Bellevue Bulldogs (8-7-4, 7-5-4) in a Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges first-round women’s soccer playoff match on Wednesday.

Luu scored in the 10th and 83rd minutes, while Pelzel scored in the 25th minute.

The Sasquatch travel to play South Division No. 1 seed Clackamus in Oregon City on Saturday.

• Brian Clark scored on a penalty kick at the 14:32 mark and the CC Spokane Sasquatch (13-5-3, 7-4-2) earned a 1-0 victory over the visiting Tacoma Titans (8-10, 7-6) in a NWAACC first-round men’s soccer playoff match.

The Sasquatch travel to play South Division No. 1 seed Clark on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Volleyball

Jalana White totaled 15 kills, 12 digs, two blocks and an ace to propel the Whitworth Pirates (14-13, 8-7) to a 25-17, 25-21, 25-21 sweep of the Whitman Missionaries in Northwest Conference play in Walla Walla.

Kristine Kardell added 12 kills for Whitworth, while Whitney Santos chipped in with 17 digs. Maddye Dinsmore finished with 41 assists.

The Pirates host Linfield on Friday in their final home match of the season.

• BreElle Bailey had 15 kills to lead the Arizona State Sun Devils to a 25-22, 25-22, 25-17 sweep over the Washington State Cougars in Pac-12 play in Tempe, Ariz.

Kyra Holt topped the Cougars with 11 kills, while Kate Sommer had a match-high 24 kills.

• Dana Norris tallied 18 kills and Madison Zinsli had 63 assists and 10 digs to lead the Community Colleges of Spokane Sasquatch (30-13, 10-2) to a 25-22, 25-9, 25-17 sweep of the visiting Big Bend Vikings (11-22, 5-8) in a NWAACC match.

Jacy Vining and Brittany Evans tied for match-high honors with 13 digs for CC Spokane. Vining added eight kills.

The Sasquatch finished with a .287 attack percentage, while holding the Vikings to a paltry .024 mark.
