Education Notebook: One Act Festival planned at Ferris High

The Ferris High School Theatre Arts Department will entertain audiences with its One Act Festival beginning today at 7 p.m. in the commons at Ferris. The festival will include six one-act performances, continuing Friday and Saturday and Nov. 14 through Nov. 16. All shows are at 7 p.m.

The first three productions are “Twelve Angry Jurors,” directed by drama teacher Mary Cooper; a comedy, “Happily Never After,” directed by senior Cara Lyonnais; and a drama, “Eleesomsynary,” directed by senior Gabrielle Boettner. The remaining three plays will be performed Nov. 14 through Nov. 16. They are “The Glass Menagerie,” directed by Cooper; “Flowers for Algernon,” directed by senior Ethan Reid; and a comedy, “The Brothers Grimm Spectacularthon,” directed by senior Andrea Blom. The collection of one-act productions feature students from beginning, intermediate and advanced drama classes, with stage management, sets, costuming, props, lighting, and sound work completed by students from the stagecraft class.

The cast for “Twelve Angry Jurors” includes Andrea Blom, Gabrielle Boettner, Liam Buckmaster, Felix Gutierrez, Luke Johnson, Halie Olney, Sadie Olney, Darius Olsen, Arielle Perez, Allie Pinnock, Colin Redman, Lakota Roubideaux, Kiah Schilling, Malarie Schultz, Cora Shields, Kaitlin Snyder, Jozette Stegman, Isabella Trujillo and Arlen Vandenberg.

Performing in “Happily Never After” are: Karl Cranney, Jacob Alm, Spencer Mors, Heidi Lockhoff, Samm Sposito, Adin Haines, Samuel Ahart, Catherine Payne, Joe Martin, Annalee Dajnowicz, Kaitlyn Sauers, Zach Lumsden, Courtney Ford, Dillon Kummer, Malaki Ramey, Jasmine Novak, Christopher Blair-Garcia, Arabella Haworth, Bailey Mors, Shreya Patel, Tyler Snook, Christian Zion, and Brandon Smith, Cara Lyonnais, Isabella Trujillo and Sage Ellington-Lawrence.

The members of the cast of “Eleesomsynary,” the last of the first three productions, are Dorothea Shannon Baumann, Artie Alaina Shelley, and Echo Katie Statema.

The cast for “The Glass Menagerie” includes Danielle Reinkens, Karl Cranney, and Kimberly Shirley.

“The Brothers Grimm Spectacularthon” cast members include Liam Buckmaster, Cara Lyonnais, Heidi Lockhoff, Zach Schmidt, and Isabella Trujillo.

And, the “Flowers for Algernon” cast includes Dillon Kummer, Courtney Ford, Colin Redman, Felix Gutierrez and Sadie Olney.

Holiday craft fair at Mead High School

Local residents getting ready for the Christmas season will have an opportunity to begin their holiday shopping at the annual Mead High School Band and Color Guard Craft fair Nov. 16, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Nov. 17, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Mead High School.

The event will feature gifts, handmade treasures and baked goods. Proceeds from the sale will benefit the Mead High School Band and Color Guard.

Admission is $1 per person and free for children 12 and younger.
