Semitruck driver hits tree south of Spokane, killing passenger

A 20-year-old woman died Saturday morning after a semitruck she was a passenger in struck a tree on U.S. Highway 195.

At 7 a.m., the semitruck driver, Braden Bundy, 21, fell asleep at the wheel, according to the Washington State Patrol. He drove off the road and into a tree, totaling the truck about 12 miles south of Spokane.

His passenger, Kelsey Heidecker, 20, died at the scene.

Bundy was transported to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center with injuries. Both were wearing seat belts.

Criminal charges are possible for Bundy.
