Gonzaga defeats LMU again

The Gonzaga men’s soccer team beat conference leader Loyola Marymount for the second time this season, 1-0 in double overtime at Los Angeles on Sunday.

Nick Hamer scored at 108:13, taking Clark Phillips’ cross and heading the ball to the left post to give the Bulldogs (9-5-3, 4-3-3 WCC) the victory over the Lions (11-4-2, 7-2-1). GU’s Ryan Caballero made a season-high 12 saves.

The victory lifted Gonzaga into third place.

• Washington (13-1-4, 6-1-2) took over first place in the Pac-12 with a 2-1 overtime victory over No. 4 California (12-3-2, 6-2-1) in Seattle. Mason Robertson scored 37 seconds into OT for the victory.

Volleyball

Third-ranked Washington swept Arizona 25-19, 25-20, 25-18 in Tucson, Ariz. The first-place Huskies (21-1, 13-1 Pac-12) have won 11 consecutive conference matches. Kaleigh Nelson led Washington with 17 kills on .342 hitting.

• North Idaho College lost 25-22, 25-21, 25-21 to seventh-ranked Salt Lake City CC, the tournament host, at the Region 19 championship Saturday night. Britney Chilcott had eight kills to lead the Cardinals.

Libero Russia Robinson and outside hitter Leeta Grap were chosen to the all-tournament team.

NIC travels to Casper, Wyo., for the NJCAA championship Nov. 21-23.

Hockey

The Spokane Braves (6-12-0-3) dropped a 4-0 KIJHL decision to the Beaver Valley Nitehawks (13-5-1-1) in Fruitvale, B.C.
