Free Thanksgiving events

Spokane Valley Partners Food Distribution - Food baskets will be provided to Spokane Valley residents who sign up for them. Sign-ups will be accepted on Wednesdays and Thursdays during food bank hours. You must call for an appointment and arrive on time. Recipients must be a Spokane Valley resident, have identification, proof of household residents (i.e., utility bill, mail with name and address on it, school record or Medicaid card). Salvation Army/Second Harvest Food Distribution - Frozen turkey and the fixings to prepare a Thanksgiving dinner will be distributed to about 7,000 area families. This is the largest one-day distribution of food from Second Harvest during the year. Proof of residency (a piece of mail) and picture ID are required. Tuesday, 8 a.m.-8 p.m., Spokane Arena, 720 W. Free Community Dinners - Spokane Valley - Greater Spokane Meals on Wheels is serving meals in celebration of Thanksgiving on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at the following locations: Appleway Court, 221. S. Farr Road; Opportunity Presbyterian Church, 202 N. Pines Road; Spokane Valley Senior Center, 2426 N. Discovery Road. (509) 924-6976.

Free Community Dinners - Spokane - Greater Spokane Meals on Wheels is serving meals in celebration of Thanksgiving on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at the following locations: American Indian Center, 905 E. Third Ave.; Clareview South, 4827 S. Palouse Highway; Corbin Senior Center, 827 W. Cleveland Ave.; Delaney Apartments, 242 W. Riverside Ave.; East Central Community Center, 500 S. City-Wide Thanksgiving Dinner - Free Thanksgiving meal for all who might otherwise be alone or go without, presented by Union Gospel Mission. This is a drug/alcohol-free environment. Dinner served 4-6 p.m., and doors open at 3:40 p.m. Enter through the doors in the breezeway between INB Performing Arts Center and the Convention Center. BRRC Turkey Trot Fun Run - Sponsored by the Bloomsday Road Runners Club. Race starts at 9 a.m. No registration required, just sign a waiver. Runners and walkers have the options of 2-mile, 3-mile or 5-mile routes. No entry fee, but cash and food donations strongly encouraged to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank.
