Overnight police chase ends in Airway Heights arrest

From staff reports
A high-speed chase involving a stolen vehicle ended in the arrest of a 21-year-old man in downtown Spokane early this morning. Airway Heights police officers began chasing Jesse Woodward sometime before 4 a.m. Thursday, according to a Spokane Police news release. When Woodward began speeding to the east, pursuing officers alerted Spokane law enforcement of the chase. Spike strips were deployed at West Third Avenue and South Monroe Street in downtown Spokane, according to the news release. Woodward was taken into custody after a short foot chase when his car was disabled. A K-9 unit found the suspect hiding in a plastic barrel behind a nearby apartment complex, according to police. Airway Heights police arrested Woodward on charges of eluding police and possession of a stolen vehicle. He also had an outstanding warrant for reckless endangerment, police said.
