Bulldogs rally for win at Portland

The Gonzaga University volleyball team rallied after dropping the first two sets and beat Portland in a West Coast Conference match on the Pilots’ court.

Scores were 18-25, 25-27, 25-18, 25-20 and 15-7.

It was the Bulldogs’ third straight WCC road win – the first time that’s happened since October of 1994.

Savannah Blinn had 12 kills and Kristina Lavrisha added 10 kills, 10 digs and a career-high four aces for GU (8-8, 4-3), which used a 7-0 fifth-set run to seal it.

Autumn Wedan tallied a match-high 18 kills for the Pilots (0-16, 0-7).

• Kendra Cunningham had 21 kills and 15 digs as Northern Colorado (6-12, 2-6) beat Eastern Washington (6-13, 3-5) in a Big Sky Conference match in Greeley, Colo. Scores were 25-16, 25-11, 24-26 and 25-20.

The match was the Eagles’ fourth-straight away from home.

EWU’s Chloe Watson had eight kills and nine digs and Lindsay Niemeier dished out 30 assists.

The Eagles return to Cheney to play host to Weber State on Thursday night at 6.

• Natasa Savovic led a balanced attack with 15 kills and 13 digs as No. 7 Southern Idaho (16-7, 4-1) topped No. 15 North Idaho (10-8, 3-2) in a Scenic West Athletic Conference match in Twin Falls, Idaho. Scores were 26-24, 25-23, 23-25 and 25-20.

Larissa Claassen and Leeta Gap had 14 kills apiece for the Cardinals.

Women’s soccer

Kristen Wucherer’s 49th-minute goal was the difference in Whitworth’s 1-0 Northwest Conference win over George Fox (3-7-1, 1-5-1) in Spokane.

The win snapped the Pirates’ four-match losing streak.

Jackie Day assisted on the goal. Whitworth (6-5-2, 3-4-2) held a commanding 18-2 advantage in shots, including 9-2 in shots on goal.

• Rashelle Fisher had three goals and an assist to lead Community Colleges of Spokane (9-0-4, 7-0-3) to a 5-1 NWAACC win over Treasure Valley (0-7-3, 0-7-3) in Ontatio, Ore.

Men’s soccer

Sam Selish and Tyler Clark scored goals and Whitworth (6-3-2, 4-2-1) held on late to edge Whitman 2-1 in a Northwest Conference match in Walla Walla.

Selisch’s goal came in the 22nd minute and Clark made it 2-0 in the 74th minute.

Whitman’s Daniel Kim scored an unassisted goal late in the match to close the gap, but the Missionaries (4-7-2, 3-3-1) couldn’t add another.

Pirates’ keeper Timmy Costa made 10 saves.

• Everardo Bartolo scored a goal in each half to power Treasure Valley (2-6-1, 2-6-1) past Community Colleges of Spokane 4-2 in an NWAACC match in Ontario, Ore.

Brian Clark and Xavier Day scored for the Sasquatch (9-4-2, 4-3-1).
