Paddleboard race, festival hits CdA waters Saturday

Coeur d’Alene is launching a new festival and race this weekend to showcase the fast-growing sport of stand-up paddleboarding.

It’s called Coeur d’SUP – the acronym refers to stand-up paddleboard – and it will be Saturday at Independence Point and City Beach. The event is sponsored by the Coeur d’Alene Chamber of Commerce.

Six races are planned, touching on all experience levels:

• 11 a.m. – ages 40 and older, 1 mile

• 11 a.m. – ages 19-39, 1 mile

• 11 a.m. – ages 13-18, 1 mile

• Noon – age 12 and younger, 1/2 mile

• 1 p.m. – four-person relay, 2 miles

• 2 p.m. – All ages, 2 miles

There are no entry fees to race.

A chamber raffle drawing for a Tahoe Woody SUP and other prizes will be at 5 p.m. Raffle tickets are $10.

The festival includes a Trickster’s Brewing Company beer garden, live music, and food and product vendors.
