Obituary: Kilburn, Lois Elaine “Gramma”

Age 84

KILBURN, Lois Elaine “Gramma” (Age 84) Of Salem, went to be with the Lord on April 8, 2014.

She was born in Penzance, Saskatchewan, Canada, December 25, 1929, and made her home in Salem, and Smith Mountain Lake, VA. for the past 25 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Colin Kilburn; parents, Ray and Winifred Anderson; brother, Ross Anderson; granddaughter, Kristin Anne Leonard.

Lois is survived by her children, Lynne Kilburn of Vinton, VA., Barry Kilburn of Spokane, WA, Cindy Bowles and husband Garry of Roanoke, VA.; sister, Eileen Janus and husband Jack of Cape Coral, FL; grandchildren, Megan Bowles and fiance’ Nick Harper, of Roanoke, VA., Katie Bowles and special friend Mark Law of Snow Creek, Nick and Sydnee Kilburn of Spokane, WA; as well as several nieces and nephews and her beloved grand dogs, Sadie, Philly, Eddie, Kaycee, and Tucker.

Lois was a gourmet cook who loved cooking and baking for her family and friends.

She was known for hosting memorable parties for any occasion.

Lois was an avid hockey fan and enjoyed reading, gardening, sewing, and swimming.

She was surrounded by many friends whom she considered family.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of 6W at Lewis-Gale Medical Center and the staff at Pheasant Ridge Nursing and Rehab Center for their care, compassion and friendship during her final days.

A celebration of Lois’ life will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Campbell Memorial Presbyterian Church in Vinton, VA.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Angels of Assisi Clinic, 415 Campbell Ave. SW, Roanoke, VA. 24016, or Campbell Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1130 Hardy Road, Vinton, VA. 24179.
