Dance With Fate wins Blue Grass Stakes

Dance With Fate charged past Pablo De Monte to win the $750,000 Blue Grass Stakes on Saturday at Keeneland in Lexington, Ky.

Pablo Del Monte and race favorite Bobby’s Kitten set the pace nearing the top of the stretch before Dance With Fate began moving through the pack with Medal Count in tow. The Florida-bred colt surged past Pablo Del Monte in the final furlong to beat Medal Count by 1 3/4 lengths, earning his first graded stakes victory and 100 points for the Kentucky Derby.

Ridden by Corey Nakatani, Dance With Fate ran 1 1/8 miles in 1:50.06 and paid $14.80, $6.80 and $5.80. Medal Count returned $7.80 and $5.20 and earned 40 Derby points. Pablo Del Monte paid $6.80 and earned 20 points.

Race finishes in triple dead-heat

There was a triple dead-heat for first in a race at Evangeline Downs in Opelousas, La., a finish so rare there have been just six since 1990.

The official photograph showed all three horses’ noses touching the wire, so a triple dead-heat was declared by the stewards. Chessie Slew, a 25-1 long shot, 5-1 shot All in the Art and 8-1 shot Memories of Trina shared the victory in the $15,000, 6-furlong claiming race.

Fourth-place finisher Lady Bistineau was just three-quarters of a length behind.

Danza wins at Arkansas

Danza, a 40-1 long shot, pulled away on the home stretch to shock a star-packed field in the Arkansas Derby in Hot Springs, Ark., giving trainer Todd Pletcher his second straight victory in the $1 million race. The colt beat Ride on Curlin by 4 3/4 lengths.

Big Macher edges favorite by nose

Big Macher won the $200,000 Potrero Grande Stakes by a nose over 7-5 favorite Wild Dude at Santa Anita in Arcadia, Calif.
