Area roundup: CC Spokane’s Even Omelia wins Frontier Invite, Whitworth’s Peter Delap wins decathlon at the NWC Multis

Even Omelia shot a final-round 2-under-par 70 to finish with a three-round total of 2-under 214 – earning medalist honors – to help the Community Colleges of Spokane Sasquatch men win the Frontier Conference Invite hosted by Lewis-Clark State at the Lewiston CC.

CC Spokane finished with an 889 total – 10 strokes clear of runner-up Lewis-Clark State. North Idaho College (942) was fifth in the nine-team event.

The Sasquatch also had top-10 placings from Cole Lorenzo (225, tied for 5th) and Zack Spencer (227, tied for 8th). John Duffin and Cooper Wright both carded 229s and tied for 11th place.

Angus Montgomery paced NIC with a 218 and a second-place finish.

Lewis-Clark State (657) won the two-round women’s tourney by six shots over Rocky Mountain College. North Idaho (771) was fourth. Madi Hauck carded a 184 to tie for 20th for NIC.

• Gonzaga, led by Alice Kim, is in second place at the women’s West Coast Conference Championship heading into the final day in Bremerton, Wash.

Kim sits at 4-under-par 140 after two rounds, giving her a four-stroke lead over the field.

Gonzaga trails front-running Pepperdine by 13 strokes and leads third-place BYU by 15 shots.

The GU men are in fourth place heading into the final round – 10 shots behind Saint Mary’s.

• The Washington State Cougars women placed 14th at the Silverado Showdown in Napa, Calif.

The Washington Huskies won it with a 3-under-par 861 total – 13 strokes in front of runner-up USC.

Senior Mallory Kent paced the Cougars with an 8-over 224 – tying her for 29th.

Track and field

Whitworth senior Peter Delap scored a personal-best 6,731 points to win the men’s decathlon at the Northwest Conference Multi-Championships at Willamette University in Salem, Ore.

Delap’s total puts him at the top of the Division III performance list.

Fellow Pirates senior Stephen Cooper (6,162) was third.

Junior Emily Moore placed fourth for the Pirates in the women’s heptathlon with a personal-best 4,071 points.

Awards

Washington State Cougars sophomore Andre McBride was named the Pac-12 Conference Male Track Athlete of the Week, the conference announced.

McBride ran lifetime bests in the 100- and 200-meter dashes at the Jim Click Shootout in Tucson, Ariz.

• Eastern Washington Eagles hammer thrower Jordan Arakawa was named the Big Sky Conference co-men’s field athlete of the week after exceeding the 210-foot barrier for the third week in a row at EWU’s Pelluer Invitational.

Arakawa shared the honor with Portland State decathlete Nevin Lewis.
