Man dies in single-vehicle collision overnight in Spokane Valley

UPDATED: Fri., April 18, 2014

From staff reports
Alejandro Apodaca, 34, died after the car he was driving collided with a tree in Spokane Valley late Thursday, the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office said. Apodaca was identified by the Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office. His death has been ruled an accident. The Nissan Altima that Apodaca was driving was traveling south on Bowdish Road near 17th Avenue and left the street, colliding with the tree around 11:55 p.m. Thursday, Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputy Mark Gregory said. When medics arrived, the lone occupant, Apodaca, was unresponsive and declared dead at the scene. Investigators were on-scene this morning attempting to determine the cause of the crash. Gregory said preliminary indications point to speed as a factor. It is unclear whether drugs or alcohol were involved, or whether Apodaca was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
