Obituary: Seefeldt, Margaret G. “Marge”

Age 70

SEEFELDT, Margaret G. “Marge” b. June 14, 1943, Pomeroy, WA, d. April 16, 2014, Spokane Even as a youngster, Marge (or Margie) displayed an obvious delight and talent with horses.

She often remarked that, as a youngster, her greatest joy, alone or with a friend, was bounding along astride her horse near her parents’ rural home.

Camping out, hunting and fishing, swimming, and sewing, are other activities she enjoyed throughout life.

Her mother, Mabel (Perkins) Dorris, a physical education teacher, loved, taught and encouraged her in these pursuits until her passing in 1977, as did her father, Edmond E. Dorris (d. 1993), who spent his later years with M. Maxine Levering.

“Max,” as she was known, soon became a close friend and mentor to Marge, and remained so until her passing in 2008 in Olympia.

Marge’s life was ever challenging, she’d explain, recounting her past as a nurse’s aide and single mother tending bar far into the night.

But the many early struggles were capped by a triumphant finish — she’d raised loving and successful children, and achieved an enduring dedication to renewed health and her wide circle of friends.

Marge was a long-time member of the Sharon Home Economics Club, where her love of home, sewing and conversation shown brightly.

The hallmark of Marge’s life was her affection for those around her, from those closest, to her pool exercise buddies, to fellow congregants at St. Mark’s Lutheran church, to her many retiree friends from the Riverview Community, and to those scattered all across the USA.

They will long remember her warm responses, contagious spirit, and winning smile.

Marge is survived by her companion of 14 years, Joseph “J.B.” Rivard of Spokane, her daughter, Margaret Hickman of Mead, son Casey Gannon of Lewiston, ID, and son J. Edmond Kappus of Moscow, ID, stepson Rod Seefeldt of Spokane and stepdaughter Jeanne Hird of Slocan, B. C., Canada, as well as her many grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 21 years, Franklin Seefeldt (d. 2000), and an infant son, Patrick J.

(“Jamie”) Gannon, Jr. (d.1967).

Marge’s service will take place April 26th at 2:00 p.m., at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 316 E. 24th St., Pastor Richard Finch officiating.
