GSL boys basketball: LC holds off G-Prep in opener

The Jim Redmon era as the Lewis and Clark boys basketball coach got off to a rousing start Tuesday.

The visiting Tigers used a fast start to withstand a late Gonzaga Prep rally as Lewis and Clark prevailed 60-55 in a season and Greater Spokane League opener for both teams.

LC opened with a 10-0 surge but the Bullpups pulled within 13-11 in the second quarter.

The Tigers pushed the lead to 39-23 by halftime. The Tigers pushed the margin to 49-29 before the Bullpups staged a late surge, pulling within 56-53 before LC stiffened late.

Dominick Oliveri led LC with 20 points and Cameron Duncan added 10. Logan Adams led G-Prep with 12 and Cole Witter added 11.

The referees studiously enforced the new hand-check rules, calling 58 fouls.

Shadle Park 72, Mead 69 (OT): The Highlanders put five players in double-figure scoring to hold off the visiting Panthers. N’Keil Nelson led Shadle with 14 points including a clutch dunk in overtime. Andreas Brown had 12, George Pilimai scored 11 and Kobe Reece and Sam Stratton added 10 each. Will McPhee had a game-high 32 points and four 3-pointers for Mead.

Rogers 72, University 70: Robert Rucker scored a game-high 28 points to lead the visiting Pirates past the Titans. KJ Hassett added 18 points and 13 rebounds for Rogers. Matt Spencer led U-Hi with 19 points and 11 rebounds and Austin Dill chipped in 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Central Valley 66, North Central 38: Three players scored in double figures to lead the visiting Bears to an easy win over the Indians. Michael Hannan led CV with 14 points and Cameron Tucker and Tanner Sloan had 10 apiece.

Ferris-Mt. Spokane: The game was rescheduled because of the Wildcats’ late football season finishing last Saturday. Tentatively, the teams will make it up Jan. 31, Mt. Spokane athletic director Paul Kautzman said.
