Boys basketball roundup: West Valley beats Lake City

Alex Hall led three West Valley players in double figures with 15 points and the Eagles edged Lake City 54-50 at the Border Clash Friday night at West Valley High School.

Austin Yoakum added 14 points and Anthony Rice chipped in 13 for the Eagles (2-0).

Lake City (1-1) led by a point after three quarters, but was outscored 22-17 in the fourth.

Joe Pasquale led Lake City with 15 points and Brandon Dotson added 11.

Post Falls 78, North Central 55: Dalton Thompson scored 18 points and Jack Millsap added 12 as the Trojans (1-0) routed the host Indians (0-2). Post Falls jumped ahead 22-11 in the first quarter. North Central’s Riley Smith led all scorers with 24 points.

Pullman 64, Grandview 41: Micah Lagerquist scored 18 points and Pullman (2-0) won at Grandview. Lagerquist made 5 of 8 shots from the floor and 8 of 10 from the free-throw line. He also had 13 rebounds and four steals. Pullman held a 45-26 rebounding advantage.

Lakeside (WA) 69, East Valley 56: Cameron Gay scored 20 points and the Eagles (1-1) used excellent free-throw shooting to beat the Knights (1-1) in Nine Mile Falls. Lakeside made 27 of 33 from the line, including 21 of 24 in the second half. Dominique Watson added 13 points and nine rebounds for the Eagles.

Northwest Christian 72, Chewelah 23: Ryan Ricks scored 17 points and Asher Cox added 14, including 12 in the first quarter, as the Crusaders (1-0) overwhelmed the visiting Cougars (0-2). Northwest Christian put the game away in the first quarter, outscoring Chewelah 28-4. NWC’s David Olds added 14 points and Ian Starkey chipped in 11.

Deer Park 62, Timberlake 52: Nate Guske scored 20 points and Carter Countryman added 15 as the Stags (1-0) topped the Tigers (0-3) at Spirit Lake. Vance Kistler tallied a team-high 14 points for Timberlake.

Clarkston 88, Mountain View 61: Trevor Allen made 7 of 8 free throws and finished with 28 points as the Bantams (2-0) topped the Thunder in Clarkston. Jake Dwyer and Trevor Sperry added a combined 27 points for Clarkston, which made 22 of 26 free throws.

Riverside 75, Springdale 41: Tyler Axtell led four players in double figures with 26 points and the Rams (1-0) raced past the visiting Chargers (1-1). After a competitive first quarter, Riverside outscored Springdale 24-8 in the second to take a 21-point lead into halftime. Andrew Kramer added 13 points and five assists for Riverside. Tyler Carr led Springdale with 24 points.

St. George’s 55, Newport 49: Felix Tsai had 17 points and four assists, Cody Peplinski added 13 points and Isaac Werkman pulled down 13 rebounds as the Dragons (2-0) edged the visiting Grizzlies (0-1). St. George’s trailed by three after three quarters, but outscored Newport 23-14 in the fourth. Ty McDaniel had 12 points and seven rebounds for the Grizzlies.

Davenport 70, Odessa-Harrington 64: Austin Zeller scored 23 points and the Gorillas (1-0) erased a seven-point halftime deficit and beat the visiting Titans (0-1). Tom Wilkie pulled down 17 rebounds for Davenport. Shane Whitaker led Odessa-Harrington with 26 points.

Kellogg 64, Wallace 34: Gus Colburn had 20 points and Tucker Gust added 14 as the Tigers (1-1) dominated early and eased past the Miners (0-1) at the Silver Valley tournament in Mullan. Brady Brantley hit five 3-pointers and finished with 19 points for Mullan.

Wilbur-Creston 57, Valley Christian 13: Dorian Jaegar and Garet Townsend combined for 19 points and the Wildcats (1-0) eased past the host Panthers (0-1).

Garfield-Palouse 60, Tekoa-Rosalia 22: Matt Holbrook scored 21 points and the Vikings (2-0) used a 30-1 first-quarter run to beat the Timberwolves (0-2) in Garfield. Mitch Jamison added 11 points for Garfield-Palouse, which forced 24 turnovers.

Yakama Tribal 81, Cusick 65: A 25-8 first-quarter run gave the Eagles the upper hand and Yakama Tribal went on to beat the Panthers (1-0) at the Wellpinit tournament. Shaniko Meanus led four Eagles in double figures with 14 points. Cusick’s Tyson Shanholtzer led all scorers with 24 points.

St. John-Endicott 46, Dayton 36: Robert Staples and James Hollingshead scored 11 points apiece and the Eagles (2-0) beat the visiting Bulldogs. Caleb Hudson added nine points for SJE, which pulled away in the second half, outscoring Dayton 27-15. The Bulldogs were led by Ian Samay’s 10 points.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 72, Pateros 58: Dallas Isaak hit six 3-pointers and finished with 26 points and Payton Nielson added 18 points and 21 rebounds as the Warriors topped the visiting Billygoats.

Kootenai 29, Kellogg JV 17: Colson Schultz had seven points and seven boards and the Warriors (2-0) clipped the Kellogg JV in Harrison.
