Obituary: Ambrose, Vernon Morris
Vern lived and grew up in Spokane in the Hillyard area and attended Rogers High School.
After graduation in 1948, he worked for Washington Water Power (Avista) whereupon he enlisted in the Navy and served in the Korean War in the Pacific Theater.
After his military service, he returned to Spokane and Washington Water Power where he married Mary Ann Bjornton in 1955 and started a family, having two children.
After a career spanning part owner in several businesses along with management, adver- tising, and supervisory jobs, Vern retired from Manor Care in 1995, retiring full-time to their place at Loon Lake where he lived for 19 years, while remaining active in the local community associations including Moose Lodge and VFW clubs, and the Food Pantry.
Vern was an incredibly generous man who was known by many as “the nicest person that I have ever met.”
He would offer to help everyone at any time.
Always the kidder, he brought much joy and laughter to family and friends.
Even neighborhood dogs awaited his return from outings, hoping for a snack.
Vern is survived by Mary Ann, his wife of 59 years, his son Allen (Christine), daughter Danette Main (Jim), grandchildren, Briana Von Ohlen (Kevin), Melissa McDaniel (Dane), Stephanie Knight (Austin), and Christopher Ambrose, and two great-grandchildren, Allie and Mason McDaniel, also several nieces, nephews and cousins.
To honor Vern’s life of service, the family suggests donations in lieu of flowers to the Inland Northwest Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, 910 W. 5th Avenue, Spokane, WA, 99204, in his name.
A memorial service will be held at the Whitworth Community Presbyterian Church, 312 W. Hawthorne Rd, at 2:00pm on Thursday, December 11, 2014.
Officiating will be the Pastor Tom Sutherland.
Engineman Second Class Vernon Ambrose will have Military Honors followed by a reception in Tiffany Hall at the church.
We will miss him greatly.
