Area roundup: EWU’s Venky Jois, Idaho’s Mike Scott share award

Eastern Washington’s Venky Jois and Idaho’s Mike Scott were named the Co-Big Sky Conference men’s basketball Players of the Week.

Jois had 38 points, eight rebounds and three blocks Dec. 6 in the Eagles’ 87-75 win over Seattle. He made 13 of 18 shots, including 12 of 15 3-pointers. It was his second straight 38-point game, which is his career high.

Scott averaged 19 points, five assists and 2.5 steals in wins over Washington State and previously unbeaten UC Davis last week. He had just one turnover in the two games.

Arena football

Offensive lineman Alex Monroe and defensive lineman Ronnell Lewis have been added to the Spokane Shock roster.

Monroe, at 6-foot-5, 315 pounds, was a four-year starter at Bethune-Cookman University.

Lewis (6-3, 260) was drafted by the Detroit Lions in 2012 out of the University of Oklahoma.
