In brief: Candidates picked for Lilac Festival Royal Court

The Spokane Lilac Festival Association has announced the 14 candidates that will be vying for the seven Lilac Festival Royal Court positions in 2015.

The candidates are all seniors in Spokane County high schools. They are:

Alaina Hill, Shadle Park

Katelynn Houger, Medical Lake

McKinna Kent, Cheney

Kendra Kilpatrick, Northwest Christian

Hannah Lee, North Central

Meghan Long, Ferris

Jamie Nord, St. George’s

Bailyn Piecewicz, Mt. Spokane

Jami Pratt, Freeman

Sidney Serff, Lewis and Clark

Chandler Stein, Mead

Madison Wilhelm, West Valley

The candidates will now continue their community service projects, as they participate in training in speech, stage presence, etiquette, military protocol and many other areas.

On Jan. 25, the final Royal Court of six princesses and one queen will be selected at the Bing Crosby Theater at 3:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased at www.spokanelilac festival.org or by calling (509) 535-4554.

Snyder to host mobile session

DOWNTOWN – Spokane City Council Member Jon Snyder is holding a mobile office session on Dec. 12 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Fire Station 4, 1515 W. First Ave.

Snyder represents District 2, which includes the South Hill, Browne’s Addition, Peaceful Valley, the Downtown area and parts of East Central.

Benefit planned for 7-year-old girl

NORTHWEST – Papa Murphy’s locations at 2418 W. Northwest Blvd. and 1530 E. Francis Ave. will be hosting a fundraiser on Dec. 17 in support of 7-year-old Maddyson who needs a kidney transplant.

On that date, 15 percent of food sales will be donated to the Children’s Organ Transplant Association on behalf of Maddyson and her family.

Whitworth plans concert at Fox

WHITWORTH – More than 120 students will perform in Whitworth University’s Christmas Festival Concerts at 8 p.m. Saturday and at 3 p.m. Sunday.

The concerts feature Jean Berger’s Magnificat, carols for choir and audience including David Willcock’s setting of “O Come, All Ye Faithful,” as well as mass choir performances of Nigerian Christmas songs.

Tickets are $18; $15 for students and seniors age 62 or older.
