Roundup: Big second quarter lifts Lakeland past Pullman in boys basketball

Tyrel Derrick scored 14 of his 30 points in the second quarter Thursday to lead the Lakeland Hawks (4-0) to a 63-57 win over visiting Pullman (2-1) in nonleague boys basketball at Rathdrum.

Pullman led 16-11 after one quarter, but Lakeland rallied for a 35-26 halftime advantage. Back-to-back 3-pointers by Andrew Knight and Jake Ram pushed the Lakeland lead to nine with 4 minutes left.

Knight finished with 10 points and Slader Ray had a game-high 11 rebounds for Lakeland. Kyle Imler led Pullman with 20 points.

Clarkston 58, Moscow 36: Trevor Sperry scored 13 points to lead three players in double figures as the Bantams (5-0) defeated the visiting Bears (0-4). Moscow’s Jack Akey hit five 3-pointers and scored a game-high 18.

Lake City JV 44, Bonners Ferry 39: Kenny Louie-McGee scored 12 points to guide the Timberwolves’ junior varsity past the host Badgers (0-2). Wyatt Nelson led BF with 15 points.

Cusick 71, Priest River 48: Cameron Bauer hit 5 of 7 3-pointers on the way to 23 points as the visiting Panthers (1-2) turned back the Spartans (0-5). Cusick’s Alec Bluff added 14 points. Brandon Campbell scored 11 points for the Spartans.

Nonleague

Coeur d’Alene 50, Bonners Ferry 44: Madisen Scholwinski scored 16 points and the host Vikings (5-2) rallied past the Badgers (3-1). CdA’s Abigail Ellison hit a basket to tie the game at 42. On the ensuing possession, Taryn Horvath stole the ball and scored on the other end to give the Vikings their first lead with 2:14 left.

Pullman 51, Lakeland 24: Emily Drake scored 17 points, hitting 3 of 6 on 3-pointers, and added eight rebounds as the visiting Greyhounds (2-0) defeated the Hawks (2-6) at Rathdrum. Pullman’s Anne Mari Petino and Savannah Paul both hit 4 of 5 from the floor.

Post Falls 40, West Valley (Yakima) 31: Sam Runkle scored 11 points, and Shayna Allert and Melody Kempton added eight apiece to lead the Trojans (5-1) to a road win over the Rams. Trailing 13-7 heading into the second quarter, the Trojans outscored WV 11-1 in the second.

Priest River 60, Cusick 27: Elisa Williams and Aimee Warren scored 10 points apiece to guide the host Spartans (4-0) over the Panthers (0-2). PR led 19-4 after one quarter.

North Star League

Lakeside (Idaho) 36, Kootenai 28: Cailyn Dohrman scored 10 points to lead the host Knights (3-2) to a win over the Warriors (1-1) in a league opener at Plummer. Lakeside’s Talia Hendrickx and Lillian Rhea combined for 17 points. Kayelee Carman led Kootenai with nine.

Gymnastics

Greater Spokane League: Jenna Schlosser won the vault, uneven bars and all-around (36.575 points) to lead Mead to the team title during a five-way meet at Rogers. Central Valley’s Izzy Erdem (34.100) finished second in the all-around with third-place finishes on the floor exercise and bars. CV’s McKinzie Carter won the floor and placed second in the vault.
