Colton girls hold off Australian team to extend streak to 47

Colton’s 47-game winning streak now includes a victory over international competition.

Zoe Moser led three players in double figures with 21 points and the Wildcats hit 16 3-pointers in a 63-59 win over NPIRE Australia Friday in Colton.

Moser also dished out nine assists.

The game was tight throughout, and the Wildcats (3-0) did just enough to hold off the Australians in the final quarter.

It was NPIRE’s first loss in six games in the United States.

Colton’s Savannah Chadwich added 17 points and six rebounds and Haley Moser hit five 3-pointers for her 15 points.

The winning streak is tied for 10th longest in Washington state girls history.

Northeast A

Medical Lake 39, Freeman 35: Cassidy Hagel and Maleeka Wagner combined for 11 fourth-quarter points and the Cardinals (1-2, 1-0) edged the Scotties (0-4, 0-1) in a league opener in Freeman. Hagel finished with a game-high 12 points. The Cardinals opened up a double-digit lead in the third quarter. Freeman cut the deficit to three late but couldn’t come any closer. Isabelle Miller scored 11 points and Cassidy Crosswhite added 10 for Freeman.

Colville 58, Newport 22: Megan Lee scored 16 points and grabbed 13 points and the Indians (1-1, 1-0) dominated from the opening tip in an easy win over the visiting Grizzlies (0-4, 0-2). Colville outscored Newport 17-3 in the second quarter and led by 24 at the half. Hadley Stratton scored 16 of Newport’s 22 points.

Riverside 41, Deer Park 18: Hayley Pace made 5 of 5 free throws and scored 11 points and Julianna Trepanier added nine points and six steals as the Rams (1-3, 1-0) crushed the visiting Stags (0-4, 0-1). Riverside had 17 steals.

Lakeside 60, Chewelah 15: The Eagles (3-1, 1-0) dominated after a competitive first quarter and dumped the Cougars (0-5, 0-2) in Nine Mile Falls. Shaye Swannack tallied a game-high 12 points for Lakeside. Chewelah was outscored 19-0 in the third quarter.

Northeast 2B North

Reardan 46, Davenport 37: Kira Frolov scored 21 points and Bailey Perleberg pulled down 12 rebounds as the Indians (2-0, 1-0) pulled away late and topped the Gorillas (1-2, 0-1) in a league opener in Reardan. The Indians led by just a point after three quarters, but outscored Davenport 15-7 in the fourth. Sisters Sydney and Madison Abbott combined for 23 points to lead the Gorillas.

Northwest Christian 61, Kettle Falls 43: Rachel Bozlee led four players in double figures with 16 points and the Crusaders (4-0, 1-0) took control in the first half and topped the host Bulldogs (3-2, 0-1). Courtney Gray had 12 points, Treasure Farmer had 11 and Mackenzi Gray chipped in 10 for NWC. Erin Johnson made 7 of 10 free throws and finished with 18 points and seven rebounds for Kettle Falls.

Springdale 51, Wilbur-Creston 36: Nicole Beckman scored 10 of her game-high 16 points in the third quarter and the Chargers (5-0, 1-0) defeated the Wildcats (2-2, 0-1) in Creston. Autumn Hubert added 12 points for Springdale. Laura Leyva led Wilbur-Creston with 12 points and seven rebounds.

Northeast 2B South

Tekoa-Rosalia 66, Liberty 47: Olivia Pakootas scored 19 points and pulled down 20 rebounds to guide the Timberwolves (4-0, 1-0) past the Lancers (1-2, 0-1) in Tekoa. Kimbery Groom added 20 points for Tekoa-Rosalia. She made four 3-pointers and was 4 of 4 from the free-throw line. The Timberwolves held a commanding 44-28 rebounding advantage. Liberty’s Madelynne Flaig led all scorers with 25 points. Christine Denny, the Lancers’ leading scorer this season, was held to seven.

Colfax 53, St. George’s 30: The Bulldogs (2-1, 1-0) forced 29 turnovers and eased past the visiting Dragons (3-2, 0-1). Carmen Gfeller scored 12 points and Kori Goodwin added 10 for Colfax. Hailey Higashi tallied a team-high 11 points for St. George’s.

Northeast 1B North

Curlew 48, Northport 32: Kayleona Fanning scored 18 of her game-high 20 points in the first half as the Cougars (2-2, 1-0) dominated early before letting up late in a win over the Mustangs (0-3, 0-1) in a league opener in Curlew. Lindsey Gibson added 11 points for the Cougars, who made 15 of 24 free throws. Ashtyn Baribault tallied a team-high 12 points for Northport.

Inchelium 51, Cusick 46: Jaylene Lelone scored 15 points and Randi Finley added 13 as the Hornets (2-0, 1-0) took control in the second quarter and edged the visiting Panthers (0-3, 0-1). Inchelium outscored Northport 16-9 in the second. Cusick’s Caytlin Nenema and Brianna Balcom combined for 20 points.

Republic 59, Selkirk 26: The Tigers (4-0, 1-0) opened the game on a 23-6 run and dumped the visiting Rangers (0-3, 0-1). Shania Graham led Republic with 13 points.

Northeast 1B South

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 55, Columbia 23: Katie Emerson made all six of her free throws and finished with 15 points and Reinee Rockett added four 3-pointers and 14 points as the Warriors (3-1, 1-0) overwhelmed the Lions (0-3, 0-1) in Coulee City. ACH pulled away in the second quarter, outscoring Columbia 16-2. The Lions’ Asia Kieffer scored 18.

Wellpinit 47, Valley Christian 26: Krya Antone scored 16 points and the Redskins (3-1, 1-0) dominated early before letting up late in a win over the visiting Panthers (1-3, 0-1). Antone and Johnvani Seymour each had three steals in the first half as Wellpinit built a 27-9 lead. The Panthers scored 15 of their points from the line.

Nonleague

Timberlake 58, Cheney 26: Shelby Starr scored 13 points and Payten Rhodes added 12 as the Tigers (7-1) routed the visiting Blackhawks (2-3). Timberlake made 22 of 26 free throws.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 60, Odessa-Harrington 45: Madi Harder made 6 of 11 shots and finished with a team-high 12 points as the Broncos (3-0) topped the Titans (0-3) in Odessa. Harder did most of her work on dribble-drives into the paint. Shelbey Watkins led O-H with 15 points, five rebounds and two steals.
