Edit: Repeal Idaho’s Grocery Sales Tax

Gov. Butch Otter raised eyebrows across the state when he told the Associated Taxpayers of Idaho he wants to see state income taxes lowered to less than 7 percent across the board and the personal property tax on business equipment eliminated altogether. Conservatives will no doubt be happy to hear this. Liberals? Not so much. The latter will certainly argue that education spending needs to be raised considerably, and how can that be done at the same time we’re cutting taxes? However, there is another form of tax cut that could gain some traction this year that both conservatives and liberals should support. It’s an idea that has been tried before but hasn’t made it very far — repealing the state grocery sales tax. Today groceries are applied the same 6 percent sales tax as most everything else you buy in the store/ Idaho Press-Tribune . More here.
