7-year-old boy in critical condition after near-drowning

From staff reports
A 7-year-old boy was in critical condition Friday night after he was found unresponsive in a hotel swimming pool in Coeur d’Alene, police reported. Emergency crews were called at 6:30 p.m. to the Spring Hill Suites, 2250 Seltice Way, police said in a news release. The boy had been swimming in the deep end of the hotel pool with his 12-year-old brother, family members told detectives, according to the news release. The child’s father was in the same room but in the hot tub. The 7-year-old had been diving and swimming to the bottom but at one point did not surface. His brother alerted his dad and they pulled him from the pool. The father and another hotel guest performed CPR until Police Officer Eric Paull arrived and took over, police said. Coeur d’Alene Fire Department crews continued life-saving efforts. The boy had a heartbeat but was not responsive. He was taken by helicopter to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center and was in critical condition, police said. The boy’s family is from Missoula, Mont.
