‘Homeland’ rallies in season 4

Chuck Barney Tribune News Service

Don’t miss

“Homeland”: We were so ready to give up on this spy thriller after a clunky Season 3 in which Brody met his maker. But Claire Danes, Mandy Patinkin and company have revived our interest with a turbocharged fourth season that, sadly, comes to an end this week. We can only hope our heroes make it out of strife-torn Islamabad alive. 9 p.m. Sunday, Showtime.

Other bets

SUNDAY: You’re invited to sing along with the Von Trapp clan during the annual holiday airing of “The Sound of Music.” Don’t worry: This is the “real” one with Julie Andrews, not the live one with Carrie Underwood. 7 p.m., ABC.

SUNDAY: We have no idea what will happen to star-crossed lovers Noah and Alison (Dominic West and Ruth Wilson) when “The Affair” wraps up its scintillating first season tonight. But as usual, we’ll be riveted to our sofas and loudly scolding them both. 10 p.m., Showtime.

MONDAY: A letter from the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., an Elvis Presley poster and some Charles Schulz comic strip art are among the items presented on “Antiques Roadshow: The Boomer Years.” It’s a nostalgic look at vintage treasures from the 1940s, ’50s and ’60s. 7 p.m., KCDT; 8 p.m., KSPS.

TUESDAY: Don’t be alarmed. Those high-pitched screams you hear being emitted by teen girls are for “One Direction: The TV Special.” It features backstage footage from the band’s concert tour and follows the blokes as they recorded their new album. 8 p.m., NBC.

TUESDAY: “The Year: 2014” has host Robin Roberts reviewing some of the biggest stories of the past 12 months, including the unrest in Ferguson, Missouri, the Ebola virus and the fight against the Islamic State group. 9 p.m., ABC.

WEDNESDAY: Yes, we’ll take one more hearty swig of “It’s a Wonderful Life.” While we’re at it, here’s a toast to George Bailey, the “richest man in town.” 8 p.m., NBC.

WEDNESDAY: We triple-dog dare you to watch all 24 hours of the annual marathon screening of “A Christmas Story.” Bonus points if you can refrain from shooting up your TV set with a Red Ryder BB gun. 8 p.m., TBS.

THURSDAY: During the annual “Doctor Who” Christmas episode, the Doctor, Clara and Santa Claus go on a dangerous sleigh ride through space and time. Sounds like someone has been hitting the eggnog a little too hard. 9 p.m., BBC America.

FRIDAY: Aisha Tyler is our host for “Now That’s Funny! On Set With TV’s Hottest Comedies.” It’s a Paley Center special that takes a behind-the-scenes look at the making of popular sitcoms, including “The Big Bang Theory” and “Modern Family.” 8 p.m., CBS.

SATURDAY: Apparently, as soon as Christmas ends, so does the parade of heartwarming movies. Bring on Jennifer Beals and an ominously titled flick called “A Wife’s Nightmare.” Holly and jolly it ain’t. 8 p.m., Lifetime.
