Stolen Christmas presents returned after chronic offender arrest

From staff reports
Spokane police were able to return several Christmas presents to their rightful owners following the Monday morning arrest of a chronic offender in a stolen vehicle. Cpl. Zachary Dahle saw Christopher C. Bacon, 18, apparently stealing outgoing mail from mailboxes in the area of 5200 North Morton Street. When Bacon saw Dahle, he jumped in a stolen vehicle and attempted to flee. Dahle was able to stop the vehicle, and located a number of stolen Christmas presents, mail, social security cards and methamphetamine inside. Bacon was arrested on charges of theft of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance, theft, identity theft and driving with a suspended license. According to a news release, police have identified Bacon as a chronic offender. Members of the department’s chronic offender unit will attend his first court appearance tomorrow to argue for a higher bond based on his past reluctance to accept chronic offender services.
