Gaels cruise to easy victory

Brad Waldow scored 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Saint Mary’s to a 73-60 win over Santa Clara at Moraga, California.

Saint Mary’s took its first double-digit lead of the game during an 8-2 run midway through the second half and built its lead to 64-45 with 6:50 left.

Senior Garrett Jackson had a career-high 18 points for Saint Mary’s (8-3) and freshman Emmett Naar added a season-high 14. Kerry Carter scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Gaels.

Brandon Clark led Santa Clara (5-7) with 24 points.

San Francisco 77, Pacific 71: Mark Tollefsen scored a career-high 24 points as the Dons rallied in the second half to defeat the Tigers at Stockton, California.

Tollefsen did it with 10-of-17 shooting from the field for the Dons (7-6). Kruize Pinkins added 16 points and Devin Watson chipped in 14.

A 3-pointer by David Taylor put Pacific on top 15-13 with 9:55 left in the first period. The Tigers opened it up to 37-32 at the break.

In the second, the Dons battled back to lead 66-63 with 2:48 left with the help of a pair of 3s by Tollefsen and another by Matt Glover.

T.J. Wallace led the Tigers (8-5) with 26 points.

Portland 61, San Diego 58: Alec Wintering hit a 3-pointer with 0.3 seconds left and Portland finished with a 9-0 run to win at San Diego.

Wintering dribbled off Volodymyr Gerun’s screen on the right wing and pulled up over San Diego’s Thomas Jacobs for the game-winner.

Bobby Sharp scored a layup to tie the game at 58 with 1:07 to go. Gerun snagged the rebound after a defensive stop with 29 seconds left to give the Pilots the last shot.
