Obituary: Burke, James “Jim”

Age 67

BURKE, James “Jim” (Age 67) Our much loved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend passed away December 21, 2014.

He was born in Spokane, Washington on June 26, 1947 to Katherine and Jesse Burke.

He graduated from Shadle Park High School in 1965.

Right out of High School he enlisted in the US Navy and served our country with four tours in the Vietnam War.

He met his beloved wife, JoAnne, just a week after he was discharged from the Navy in 1969.

They celebrated their 43rd anniversary this year.

He started his pipefitting career with the fire protection division of Arnold and Jeffers Company.

He went on to be a part owner of Empire Sprinkler Company Inc.

In 1984 he and his longtime friend, Dick Spiger, opened the doors of Inland Empire Fire Protection, which survives today in no small part as a result of Jim’s business sense, ethics, and drive.

Jim grew to be a highly respected businessman.

Jim was never afraid to say what needed to be said.

There was never any doubt about where someone stood with him.

Jim retired from Inland Empire Fire Protection in 2010 to pursue his love of hot rods, and was a member of The Dukes Auto Club.

Jim is survived by his wife JoAnne; son AJ (Ericka) and grandson Hunter of Spokane; sister Patti of Arizona; brother Bill (Deanna) of Spokane; a niece, numerous nephews, and grandnieces.

A Memorial Service will be held at St. Charles Parish, 4515 N. Alberta St., Spokane, WA 99205.

Memorial contributions may be made in Jim’s name to the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery, 1004 E. 8th Avenue, Spokane, WA 99202.
