Obituary: Sturman, Elva M. (Grant)

Age 101

STURMAN, Elva M. (Grant) Elva Sturman, formally of Tensed, Idaho passed away on December 24, 2014 at Ivy Court Nursing Home in Coeur d’Alene, ID.

Elva was born May 31, 1913 in a farming area known as Rosetta near Culdesac, Idaho.

Her parents were Alpha M. Grant and Mary Laughlin Grant.

Elva attended school in Rosetta and Clarkston, WA and high school in Culdesac, ID graduating in 1932.

After high school, Elva moved to Tensed, ID where she met her husband, Ralph Sturman.

They were married in Lewiston, ID on June 8, 1935.

She had three children, Gary, Larry, and Marilyn.

During their life time, they moved several times.

During the war, they lived a short time at Farragut and then in Vancouver, WA.

Later, they bought the town of Golden, ID located on the South fork of the Clearwater River.

Elva was the postmistress, cook, ran the store and maintained the hotel and cabins.

They then moved to Lewiston for a short time and then back to Tensed where Ralph remained in the logging business.

Another move took them first to Elk River, ID and then on to Hall, MT.

After they sold the mill, they moved back to Plummer, ID where Elva became very active in the community.

She helped fix up several churches and the Plummer Senior Citizen Center.

She also served on several boards for the aging programs and spent four years on the Governor’s Advisory Commission for the area.

Elva was also instrumental in obtaining the Senior Citizen Apartments in Plummer.

In 2000, they moved to DeSmet, ID to be near their daughter, Marilyn.

In 2012, Elva moved to Ivy Court Nursing Home in Coeur d’Alene, ID.

Elva is survived by her son, Larry and wife Alice of Spokane Valley, WA, daughter Marilyn and husband Henry Larson of DeSmet, ID, and daughter-in-law Carol Sturman of Tekoa, WA.

Elva has 12 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph in 2002 and her son Gary in 2012.

She also lost her three siblings, Harley, Violet and Ermel.

The family would like to thank the staff at Ivy Court for their excellent care of Elva.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

Memorial gifts may be given to the charity of the donor’s choice.
