Whitworth loses on bases-loaded walk

LOS ANGELES – A bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the ninth inning resulted in Occidental’s 8-7 victory over Whitworth in a nonconference baseball game on Sunday.

Trailing by a run in the ninth, Occidental’s first two batters reached base on errors. A bunt, with an error on the play, brought in the tying run. An intentional walk loaded the bases and a strikeout followed. Van Fudge then drew the game-winning walk.

Cory Mack (0-1), who started the ninth for Whitworth, took the loss.

Tyler Pfeffer had three hits and three RBIs for the Pirates, who dropped to 2-2. Thomas Wakem also had three hits and Gerhard Muelheims and Dalton Carter two each. Muelheims and Nick Motsinger each drove in two runs.

The victory was the first for Occidental (1-2).
