Man shot near Garland Theater; suspect flees

A man was shot on the street in north Spokane this afternoon and is in surgery at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center, police said. Spokane Police do not have anyone in custody. Witnesses reported seeing a blue or green SUV or truck leave the scene after the shooting, which happened shortly after 4 p.m. along West Walton Street about one block east of the Garland Theater. “It sounds like the vehicle fled the area pretty quick,” said Lt. Joe Walker. The victim, in his 30s, was conscious when police arrived, Walker said. Investigators do not yet know if the shooting was random. Some witnesses told police they heard between three and six gunshots, Walker said. Walton is closed east of Lincoln Street. Major Crimes detectives are investigating. Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Crime Check at 456-2233.
