Officer’s body camera recorded Zillmer shooting

A body camera recorded the fatal confrontation between Jed Zillmer and six Spokane County Sheriff’s deputies last Tuesday at Sullivan Road and Indiana Avenue in Spokane Valley. The camera was worn by a Liberty Lake police officer who joined the chase as it passed through Liberty Lake. “I have not seen it,” said Liberty Lake Police Chief Brian Asmus of the video footage. “We turned it over to the SIRR (Spokane Investigative Regional Response team),” which is investigating the shooting. The officer who was on scene did review the footage, Asmus said. “He said you can’t really see anything because of the distance and the darkness,” Asmus said. “But the audio is as clear as day.” The recording will not be released to the public until the investigation is complete, Asmus said.
