Teenager arrested in Moses Lake homicide

Michael Meier, 17, taken into custody Thursday

From staff report
A 17-year-old was taken into custody early Thursday in the weekend shooting death of Brandon Mende, 16, outside a home near Moses Lake, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office said. Michael David Meier was arrested without incident at a home on North Grape Drive in Moses Lake, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release. Mende was targeted in another shooting incident Jan. 20, investigators said. Grant County Sheriff Tom Jones said detectives did not think the shootings were random. Witnesses in the case had been uncooperative, the Sheriff’s Office said. On Thursday, Jones praised the collaboration of law enforcement agencies and tipsters in leading to Meier’s arrest. “This is a great example of what can happen when we have citizen and law enforcement cooperation,” Jones said in a statement.
