In brief: James helps Heat silence Thunder

NBA: LeBron James scored 33 points before leaving the game with a bloody nose and the visiting Miami Heat beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 103-81 on Thursday night.

James went down with 5:50 remaining in the fourth quarter after he was struck by Serge Ibaka on a drive to the basket. James finished the dunk, but was bloodied and left the court with a towel over his face.

Dwyane Wade had 24 points and 10 assists and Chris Bosh added 24 points for Miami, which won its fourth straight and avenged an earlier loss to Oklahoma City.

Kevin Durant scored 28 points for Oklahoma City. Russell Westbrook, who had missed the previous 27 games after having a surgery on his right knee, started and scored 16 points.

• Warriors hold off Rockets: David Lee scored 28 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as Golden State defeated visiting Houston 102-99 in overtime.

• Nuggets drop Bucks: Kenneth Faried continued his recent hot streak, scoring 26 points to carry the Denver Nuggets past the host Milwaukee Bucks 101-90.

• Pacers deal Granger to 76ers: Indiana sent Danny Granger and a 2015 second-round draft pick to Philadelphia in exchange for former first-round pick Evan Turner and forward Lavoy Allen. The draft pick originally belonged to Golden State.

• Rockets, Nuggets deal: The Houston Rockets traded Aaron Brooks to the Denver Nuggets for Jordan Hamilton.

• Nets seek Collins: The Brooklyn Nets worked out center Jason Collins, who would become the first openly gay active NBA player if signed. The 35-year-old Collins played in 38 games for Boston and Washington in 2012-13.

• Clips pick up Jamison: The Atlanta Hawks acquired 37-year-old forward Antawn Jamison from the Los Angeles Clippers. The Clippers received the rights to shooting guard Cenk Akyol, a 2005 second-round pick now playing in Turkey.

• Three teams swap pieces: The Washington Wizards have announced a three-team trade that will land them point guard Andre Miller from the Denver Nuggets. The Wizards will send forward Jan Vesely to the Nuggets and point guard Eric Maynor to the 76ers. Philadelphia receive a draft pick from the Wizards in 2015 and one from the Nuggets in 2016. Washington receives a protected 2014 second-round pick from the 76ers.

• Cavs trade for Hawes: The Cleveland Cavaliers acquired center Spencer Hawes from the Philadelphia 76ers for forward Earl Clark, center Henry Sims and two second-round draft picks. Hawes, who played one season at the University of Washington, is averaging 13 points and 8.5 rebounds, both career highs, and shoots 40 percent from 3-point range.

• Turiaf sidelined: The Minnesota Timberwolves say center Ronny Turiaf is out indefinitely with a bruised right knee. The Gonzaga graduate is averaging 4.1 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.7 blocks in 20.9 minutes per game this season.

• Shumpert out: The New York Knicks say swingman Iman Shumpert will miss about two weeks with a sprained ligament in his left knee suffered in Wednesday’s win at New Orleans.

Unranked UNC upends No. 5 Duke

Men’s basketball: Marcus Paige scored all 13 of his points in the second half, including two big baskets in the final 21/2 minutes, to help North Carolina (19-7, 9-4 ACC) beat No. 5 Duke (21-6, 10-4) 74-66 in the rivalry’s weather-delayed game in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Senior Leslie McDonald added a season-high 21 points for the Tar Heels, who rallied from 11 down in the second half.

• Spartans set record: Gary Harris scored 25 points, Adreian Payne added 23 and No. 13 Michigan State (22-5, 11-3 Big Ten) hit a school-record 17 3-pointers in a 94-79 victory over host Purdue (15-11, 5-8). Gary Harris added 14 for the Spartans, who are tied with rival Michigan atop the Big Ten standings. The two teams meet Sunday.

• UConn downs Temple: Shabazz Napier had 17 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists as No. 21 Connecticut (21-5, 9-4 AAC) denied Temple (7-18, 2-11) its second straight upset over a nationally ranked team with a 68-55 victory in Philadelphia. Ryan Boatright added 14 points and DeAndre Daniels had 13 for the Huskies.

• Memphis escapes: Michael Dixon Jr. scored 13 of his 15 points in the second half and No. 22 Memphis (20-6, 9-4 AAC) led from start to finish in a 64-59 victory over Rutgers (10-17, 4-10).

Upsets galore at Match Play

Golf: Three of the top four seeds fell in a wild day at the Match Play Championship at Dove Mountain in Marana, Ariz.

Graeme McDowell rallied from two holes behind on the 15th tee for a 1-up win over Hideki Matsuyama of Japan.

Jason Day also rallied, from 3 down against Billy Horschel and beat him on the 22nd hole.

Henrik Stenson, the No. 1 seed, fell behind early against Louis Oosthuizen and never caught up in a 4-and-3 loss.

In one of the best matches of the day, Ernie Els poured in one clutch putt after another to stay in the match, and then beat Justin Rose on the second playoff hole.

Rory McIlroy came back against Harris English, but lost when he double-bogeyed the 19th hole.

Sergio Garcia, at No. 5, is now the top seed remaining after his 3-and-1 victory over Bill Haas. Next up for Garcia is Rickie Fowler, who outlasted Jimmy Walker in 18 holes.

Matt Kuchar had a 1-up victory over Ryan Moore in a match so close that 15 of the 18 holes were halved. Hunter Mahan didn’t take his first lead until the 17th hole in a 2-up win over Richard Sterne.
