Pirates storm past Bearcats

Whitworth used a 25-0 run early in the second half to take control in a 64-53 Northwest Conference win over Willamette Saturday in Salem, Ore.

The Bearcats (2-9, 0-2) led by as many as 12 points in the first half.

Willamette scored the opening basket of the second half, then Whitworth (8-3, 2-0) went on the decisive run throughout the following 8 minutes.

Whitworth’s Colton McCargar scored 18 points, with 12 coming after halftime. He also pulled down seven rebounds

The Pirates’ George Valle added 10 points and nine rebounds and Dustin McConnell chipped in 11 points and five assists.

Whitworth hosts Pacific Lutheran on Friday.

North Idaho 89, Snow 76: Bryce Leavitt led three players in double figures with 21 points and the Cardinals (16-3, 3-1) used hot shooting to get past the Badgers (9-9, 0-4) in a Scenic West Athletic Conference game in Coeur d’Alene.

NIC shot 51.7 percent from the floor and made 24 of 29 free throws.

Will Dorsey made 14 of 15 from the line and added 17 points for North Idaho.

Snow’s Anthony Morris and Walter Wright combined for 33 points.

CC Spokane 113, Salish Kootenai 58: Kwinn Hanson scored 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and Dean Richey added 23 points, five rebounds and five assists as the Sasquatch (10-4) overwhelmed Salish Kootenai in a nonconference game at Spokane Falls Community College.
