Boys roundup: Lakeside soars to the top of Northeast A

Cameron Gay scored 21 points and Ryan Quigley added 14 as Lakeside took over sole posession of first place in the Northeast A League with a 54-47 win over Riverside Friday night at Riverside.

The game featured several lead changes before the Eagles (8-3, 3-0) pulled away for good in the fourth quarter.

Riverside’s Tyler Axtell scored 16 points, Dallas Shuler had 15 and Andrew Kramer added 12.

The Rams (9-2, 2-1) lost for the second time in three games after starting the season 8-0.

The teams meet again Jan. 28 in Nine Mile Falls.

Medical Lake 61, Newport 55: Cory Wagner scored 18 points and the Cardinals (4-7, 2-2) used an 8-0 fourth-quarter run to pull away and beat the visiting Grizzlies (6-5, 2-2). Medical Lake’s Tellas Johnson added 15 points and Dylan Rushfeldt chipped in 13. Newport’s Jeron Konkright led all scorers with 27 points.

Freeman 77, Kettle Falls 39: The Scotties (7-4, 3-1) dominated from the get-go and eased past the host Bulldogs (5-6, 0-4). The Scotties’ Ryan Maine scored 14 of his game-high 19 points in the opening quarter. Cole Wren and Connor McKern scored eight points apiece for Kettle Falls.

Great Northern

West Valley 61, Colville 52: Jake Love scored 27 points and secured 10 rebounds as the Eagles (8-2, 1-1) topped the visiting Indians (5-3, 0-1). Alex Hall added 16 points for West Valley, including four free throws down the stretch to help seal the win. Matt Hubbard, in his first game back from a shoulder injury suffered in Colville’s season-opener, scored 25 points for the Indians.

East Valley 55, Cheney 41: J.T. Phelan scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as the Knights (7-3, 2-0) surged in the fourth and defeated the visiting Blackhawks (1-7, 0-2). East Valley’s eight-point halftime lead dwindled to four entering the final quarter, but the Knights outscored Cheney 21-11 in the fourth to slam the door. The Blackhawks’ Alex Berman scored a game-high 18 points.

Northeast 2B

Northwest Christian 60, Reardan 48: The Crusaders (9-5, 4-4) jumped ahead early and held on late to beat the visiting Indians (4-9, 0-8). NWC’s Chris Hartis scored 18 points, Jonathan Morris had 13 and Ryan Ricks chipped in 10. Reardan’s Brandon Ruben led all scorers with 25 points.

St. George’s 68, Liberty 44: The Dragons (14-0 8-0) dominated in the first half and went on to beat the host Lancers (11-3, 5-3). Erik Muelheims and Dexter Sienko scored 18 points apiece for the Dragons, who shot a 62 percent from the field. Liberty’s Ryan Thayer scored 17 points.

Colfax 55, Davenport 45: Danny Robinson scored 16 points and the Bulldogs (7-5, 5-2) hit their free throws down the stretch to outlast the visiting Gorillas (4-9, 1-6). Brent Becker had 14 points and Keith Gfeller and Kasey Johnson added 11 points apiece for Colfax, which made 12 of 13 from the line in the final quarter.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 66, Springdale 41: Connor O’Neill made three 3-pointers and finished with 17 points to guide the Broncos (9-1, 5-1) past the Chargers (3-11, 2-6) in Ritzville. Tyler Frederick added 13 points and seven rebounds and Dylan Hartz chipped in 10 points for LRS. Springdale was led by Jordan Cloud’s 13 points.

Northeast 1B North

Cusick 80, Inchelium 75: Chad Browneagle erupted for 36 points and 16 rebounds as the Panthers (10-2, 5-0) stormed from behind in the second half and edged the visiting Hornets (2-4, 2-2). Cusick trailed by 13 points at halftime, but outscored Inchelium 48-30 in the second half. The Panthers’ Spirit White added 16 points, including four key free throws late to help seal the win. Inchelium’s Roger Finley scored 21.

Curlew 75, Columbia 32: Coby Grumbach made 7 of 12 shots from the floor and 6 of 7 from the free-throw line and finished with 20 points to guide the Cougars (6-3, 4-1) past the visiting Lions (2-10, 1-3). Mason Knapp added 18 points and 12 rebounds for Curlew. Columbia’s Brayden Allen scored 13 points.

Selkirk 48, Northport 26: Cole Dawson scored 15 points as the Rangers (4-8, 3-2) built a commanding halftime lead and eased past the visiting Mustangs (0-11, 0-5). Dominic Cain added 11 points and Shawn Mailly added 10 for Selkirk.

Northeast 1B South

Valley Christian 65, Wellpinit 39: Nick Cox scored 25 points and Bo Piersol added 17 as the Panthers (7-4, 1-0) routed the visiting Redskins (7-3, 0-1). Wellpinit’s James Best scored 15 points and Cedric Bowen added 14.

North Star

Lakeside 59, Wallace 49: The Knights (8-3, 1-1) made 16 of 17 free throws and outlasted the Miners (3-2, 1-1) in Wallace. Lakeside’s Joe Brown scored 14 points and Jordan Meshell added 12. Gavin Rasmussen and Brady Brantley scored 16 points apiece for Wallace.

Southeast 1B

Garfield-Palouse 48, Pomeroy 47: Matt Holbrook’s half-court buzzer-beater gave the Vikings (9-0, 5-0) a thrilling come-from-behind victory over the host Pirates (9-1, 5-1). Garfield-Palouse’s Zach Kuehner hit a late 3-pointer to tie the game, then, following a pair of Pomeroy free throws, Holbrook banked in the game-winner.

Tekoa-Oakesdale 64, St. John-Endicott 62: Zach Dabolt scored 21 points and Cooper Angelo added 13 as the Nighthawks (1-5, 1-4) surged from behind in the fourth and edged the visiting Eagles (0-9, 0-5). Tekoa-Oakesdale outscored SJE 19-9 in the fourth to erase an eight-point deficit in the third quarter.

Colton 55, LaCrosse-Washtucna/Kahlotus 50: Dalton Patchen scored 14 points and the Wildcats (3-2, 2-2) slid past the host Tigercats (2-4, 1-3). Darcy Stamper erupted for 32 points for LaCrosse-Washtucna/Kahlotus.

Liberty Christian 72, Rosalia 69: The Patriots (0-4, 0-3) had five players score in double figures in a tight win over the visiting Spartans (5-4, 3-2). Rosalia’s Craig Nelson led all players with 24 points and Ryan Maley added 22.

Nonleague

Lake City 67, Moscow 58: Chuckie Adams led three players in double figures with 16 points and the Timberwolves (7-4) used a strong first-quarter effort to get past the host Bears (2-6). The Bears’ Jack Akey made five 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 22 points.

Chewelah 59, Republic 49: Mason Miller scored 20 points and the Cougars (4-7) used a 20-4 third-quarter run to take control and beat the host Tigers (4-6). Republic’s Taylor Campbell scored 14 points.

Clarkston 60, Lewiston 34: The Bantams (9-1) took over after a competitive first quarter and routed the Bengals (3-7) at Lewis-Clark State College. Clarkston’s Kage Sobotta scored 13 points. Trevor Allen and Carson Holman had 10 each.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 55, Pateros 47: Dallas Isaak scored 22 points and Logan Bohnet added 16 points and 13 rebounds as the Warriors (2-9) held off the Billygoats in Coulee City.
