Vets still harmed

Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., has fired another shot in his war against the U.S. Postal Service, and this one is aimed directly at the backs of our veterans and postal workers. His legislation would restore COLAs (cost-of-living adjustments) to the military that were recently done away with in the recent budget bill.

But, in a cynical and politically motivated move, the legislation would also strip the Postal Service and the American people of six-day delivery of mail, resulting in tens of thousands of job losses, which would negatively affect veterans, who make up 20 percent of the USPS workforce.

I hope Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers sees through this attack on the Postal Service and restores military COLAs but not at the expense of military veterans, who are hard at work delivering the nation’s mail.
