Rooftop burglary suspects arrested at K-Mart
Jose Lemus, 18, and three other juvenile suspects in custody
Spokane Police arrested four young men early Tuesday in the midst of an alleged plot to break into an East Sprague K-Mart from the roof and steal jewelry and electronics.
Jose Lemus, 18, and three juvenile suspects were taken into custody after 3 a.m. Tuesday, according to a Spokane Police Department news release. Two of the alleged burglars were on the roof of the store at 4110 E. Sprague Ave., while the other two grabbed items inside the store after entering via chain from a roof access area, according to police.
Spokane firefighters offered assistance with ladders to reach the rooftop suspects, according to police.
The two suspects inside the store were wearing headlamps and masks. They were taken into custody with backpacks containing watches, rings and other jewelry. A shopping cart loaded with an Xbox game console and other electronics was also recovered, according to police.
Investigators say they are looking into the possibility Tuesday’s alleged break-in was tied to a burglary at another K-Mart in December.
Lemus is scheduled to make a first court appearance on his criminal charges this afternoon.
